“Technical rope rescue is a calling. The technician should find satisfaction through practice alone. When the opportunity to perform a vertical rescue does come along, the technician who knows his craft will be rewarded with a job well done.”

Simulated High Angle Rescue Video

Check out the link below for an interesting video from RRG... wilderness rescue using the AZ
Vortex.  They do a great job of being efficient with their time.

Some things to look for...

1. What equipment does the initial recon medic use to repel to the patient?
2. What type of knot do they tie for the mainline anchor?

High Angle Raise with Vortex Side A-Frame

In part 2 (link below), notice the "Rock Exotica"  omni block double pulleys with the swivel. They open from the side to allow easy entry of the rope.

Also, I like the way that they get the stokes down to the patient quickly, and THEN set up the High directional while the attendants are packaging the patient.

Part 2

More questions to think about...

Is the Spec-Pak acceptable c-spine immobilation?  Can we use this as a harness to secure the victim?

Any discussion or thoughts on how this does or does not relate to the way we do things, please post a comment!

Stay Safe!

Hopefully there will never be a reason to disassemble the SOF but a good technician understands how things work so he can adapt to the unexpected.

"Knot of the Day"

Practice this knot at the station tonight while standing by between calls...
1. In the open
2. Around an object
3. Backwards
4. With your eyes closed
